Who We AreMontgomery Taylor CPA, CFP

Monty Taylor founded Montgomery Taylor and Company LLC in his pursuit to provide the best integrated financial planning, investment and tax services to his clients. As both a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner, Monty has over 27 years of investment and financial advisory experience. His passion is working with middle- to high-income clients to help them achieve their financial goals and the stability and lifestyle they’re seeking for and during retirement.

As a highly credentialed professional in the investment consulting industry and an experienced institutional manager, he has worked as a key executive for a $700 million pension plan. As a personal wealth advisor, he has coached many high net-worth individuals and couples in Sonoma and Marin counties.

Mr. Taylor personally counsels individual clients on wealth management strategies, and he is readily accessible for questions and financial and/or tax consultations with his clients.

Monty grew up in the Alexander Valley of Sonoma County. He married his junior college sweetheart, Terri, in 1979, and together they have raised three great kids.

Michael O'Neill, CRTP Tax SpecialistCarol Carlson is our firm’s Tax Manager. She has been in the tax profession since 1991, starting with H&R Block and moving on to one of the now "Big 5" KPMG. She left KPMG to enroll in Golden Gate University's Masters in Taxation program. After that, she worked with two CPA firms in Marin County. She passed the enrolled agents exam in 1996 and presently serves on the Board of Directors for the North Bay Chapter of the California Society of Enrolled Agents. The definition of an enrolled agent is a tax expert licensed by the federal government and performs “CPR” (consultation, preparation and representation) before the IRS.

Carol's tax expertise lies in Individuals, Estates and Trusts and that experience is a valuable asset to our clients.

She graduated from Oregon State University with a BA in Business Administration and has received her Masters in Taxation from Golden Gate University in 1999.

She enjoys playing duplicate bridge, where she plays in regional tournaments accumulating life masters points. She also enjoys reading and traveling.

Michael O'Neill, CRTP Tax SpecialistMike O'Neill joined our firm in 2006 as a Tax Specialist. Mike was with Hewlett Packard and Agilent Technologies for 26 years as a manager in various departments, including Purchasing, Procurement and Global Sourcing. Since retiring in 2001, Mike has worked seasonally as an Income Tax Specialist and also as a business consultant on numerous projects.

Mike graduated from San Jose State University with two degrees: a B.S. in Accounting and a B.S. in Business and Industrial Management.

Mike is a local born and raised Santa Rosa resident, who keeps busy with volunteer work and playing golf, traveling, hiking, boating and relaxing at his summer home at Clear Lake.

 

Cathy Bricker Seasonal Tax PreparerCathy Bricker joins our staff as seasonal tax preparer. She graduated from San Francisco State University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. She has passed the CPA exam and is currently completing her "experience" hours to become certified. Cathy has worked the past nine tax seasons with local CPAs. She has also worked the last 2 years auditing non-profit organizations with a local CPA.

Cathy was raised in Santa Rosa's Bennett Valley and continues to love living there. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeff, and her three sons. In her spare time she likes to garden, jog, walk her dogs, read, and take physical education classes at Santa Rosa Junior College.

Barbara Shaw Client Services ManagerBarbara Shaw joined us in 2008 as our Client Services Manager. Barbara was a Business Education teacher for 20 years at the high school and junior college level. She retired after 17 years of teaching at Rancho Cotate High School in Rohnert Park through the Sonoma County Regional Occupational Program. In 2001 she was recognized by Sonoma County’s School to Career Partnership as “Outstanding Career Education Teacher”. In addition to her teaching background, Barbara has over 15 years of experience working in accounting and office administration.

Barbara enjoys making a difference in the lives of others. She has the knowledge and experience to assist college-bound students and their families pursue their educational and career goals.

Barbara graduated from Humboldt State University with a B.S. in Accounting. She completed graduate work in Education, Counseling and Technology. Barbara enjoys spending time with her family and friends, gardening, traveling to foreign countries and scrapbooking her travel experiences.

Greg Porter, CFPGreg Porter, with over 13 years of experience in the financial services industry, has developed the knowledge and wisdom to steer his clients through an increasingly complex and volatile investment environment.

Greg is a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management from Sonoma State University. Upon graduation, he spent seven years as a stockbroker with Dean Witter and Prudential Bache Securities. After spending two years as a retirement analyst with the County of Sonoma, he joined Core Asset Management as a Marin county Registered Investment Advisor, responsible for the management of approximately $80,000,000 in client assets. As Vice President, he had the primary responsibility for approximately 150 client relationships and was a key member of the Investment Committee. Currently, he has his own Investment Management and Financial Planning practice. He spends considerable time keeping up with the constant changes in the marketplace by reading numerous industry publications and through continuing education. He has passed the CPA examination, as well as the NASD Series 7 and 66 examinations. He is also a licensed general contractor.

Greg's clients appreciate his ability to communicate complex subjects to them in a clear and understandable manner. They also appreciate the fact that he is easy to reach and is always ready to listen to their questions and concerns.
